What We Do: Cancer Awareness Program

As part of the de-addiction and cancer awareness program, the village health workers visit the households and interact with the individuals and their family members. Generally it is found that about 40% of the population is addicted either to tobacco or alcohol or to them both. The village health workers provide counseling for de-addiction and screening for oral cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer. They identify at-risk cases and high risk cases and refer the suspected cases to standard cancer care facilities. The health workers also do follow-ups of cancer patients and help them complete the treatment.
